From Swedish start-up to Evolution brand
NetEnt was set up in Sweden in 1996 to build innovative online casino solutions that give players a memorable experience. It has stuck to that strategy and kept improving its products, and its popularity has grown year on year. Over time it opened offices in Malta, Ukraine, Gibraltar, the US, Poland and Alderney.
The company became profitable in 2003. Revenue reached EUR 149.1 million in 2016, and its annual reports show revenue up 9% in 2020 compared with the year before. In 2020 Evolution Gaming agreed to acquire NetEnt, and the deal was declared unconditional in November of that year. Thanks to the strength of its games and reputation, NetEnt continues as a brand in its own right.

Company size and leadership
NetEnt is one of the largest businesses in iGaming, with more than 800 employees and offices around the world. As a listed company it published its results on a financial data page, which showed revenue growing every year since 2010. Quarterly reporting put revenue at SEK 521 million for Q3 2020 alone, and further growth is expected as part of the Evolution group.
Therese Hillman stepped down as CEO in the first quarter of 2021, and no successor had been named at the time. Other senior figures include Mathias Hedlund, Giles Potter and Bryan Upton.

NetEnt software and pooled jackpots
Few studios match NetEnt on slot quality. Its games combine top-tier graphics, sound, animation, video intros and mechanics, and they are backed by well-known jackpots and promotions, with prizes ranging from cash shares of €10,000 to gold bullion and trips abroad.
NetEnt runs four pooled jackpots that have produced some of the largest payouts in online casino history. Mega Fortune™ entered the Guinness Book of World Records after paying €17.86 million to one player, and in 2015 it set a record for the largest mobile casino win with a €8.6 million payout.
Beyond slots, NetEnt offers realistic RNG table games that bring a Las Vegas-style experience to mobile and desktop and round out the catalogue. The studio once ran a live dealer division, NetEnt Live, but after the Evolution takeover the focus moved to slots and the live section was closed.

NetEnt slots players know by name
Story is at the core of NetEnt’s success. Rather than just spinning for combinations, players go on journeys, hunt for treasure, crack ancient puzzles and explore richly themed worlds. One or two new games arrive each month. NetEnt has worked with studios such as Universal and 20th Century Fox on branded titles including Scarface, Aliens and South Park, and fan favourites include Starburst, Gonzo’s Quest, Guns N’ Roses, Wild Wild West and Jack and the Beanstalk.

Gonzo's Quest
NetEnt’s first platinum video slot opens with a short film about Gonzo, a conquistador modelled on the historical Gonzalo Pizarro. It plays on five reels with ten paylines. The Avalanche feature leads into Free Fall, and every winning combination triggers a 3D explosion.
Gordon Ramsay: Hell’s Kitchen
A branded hit built around the Michelin-starred chef and his TV shows, complete with his trademark sharp-tongued commentary during play. The classic 5x3 grid has 20 paylines, and win multipliers, free spins and several bonus rounds keep it lively.
Starburst
A colourful, arcade-style slot with five reels and ten paylines, made for players who like fast play and simple, fun features. Instead of standard wilds it uses Starburst Wilds, which open the way to much bigger wins.
Wild Wild West
A comic-book tale of four train robbers on five reels and ten paylines. Four wild features and a Pick and Click bonus give players the chance of 50x the bet.
Guns N’ Roses
Part of the NetEnt Rocks series and a tribute to the legendary band. The slot has five reels, 20 paylines and a variety of wild and bonus symbols. It opens with concert footage, and players can choose from five of the band’s hit songs as the soundtrack.
Babylon Riches
Released in 2024 and set in ancient Babylon, with artwork inspired by the Hanging Gardens. It plays on five reels with 20 paylines. Every eighth spin a Cycle Round turns gold-framed symbols into wilds or multipliers. Two scatters start the free spins, where extra frames add cash prizes, and Feature Buy offers direct entry to the bonus. Volatility is medium to high, RTP reaches 96.13% and the top win is 7,250x the stake.
Royal Nuts
Another 2024 release, set in a lavish kingdom ruled by crowned nut characters. The five reels use an unusual 3-4-5-4-3 layout against a red backdrop lined with royal portraits and gold detail. Card royals and gems make up the lower symbols, while three nut characters pay the most.
The nuts can turn into Golden Wild Nuts with regular, stacked or expanding wild effects. Scatters award up to 20 free spins, during which collected gems unlock more wild effects. Feature Buy gives instant access to the free spins, and the maximum win is 5,774x the bet.
Progressive jackpots worth millions
Players come for the stories but stay for the wins. On top of generous bonus features in each game, NetEnt’s jackpots are networked across every casino that carries them, so pools can climb into millions of euros.
In 2011 a 20-year-old student from Norway won EUR 11.7 million on Mega Fortune. The studio’s leading progressive titles are:
- Divine Fortune
- Cosmic Fortune
- Mega Fortune
- Arabian Nights
- Mega Fortune Dreams
- Hall of Gods
Back office and operator tools
Beyond its games, NetEnt offers operators an advanced back office with 25 interface languages, cross-selling options and a flexible API. Its Casino Module management tool covers customisable promotions, from birthday bonuses and free rounds to fully configurable tournaments.
- Player monitoring: review, investigate and track player activity, run reports and pull statistics instantly.
- Business intelligence: quarterly network benchmarks, game performance reports, demographics and ratios to sharpen marketing and strategy.
- Device detection: see how games perform on each device type and time promotions to player preferences.
- Account management: a dedicated account manager for each client, covering KPI and game performance analysis, custom campaigns and guidance on regulated markets.
NetEnt also keeps a public GitHub profile: github.com/netentofficial.
An award-winning mobile pioneer
NetEnt collected four awards in 2014, including recognition as the best mobile games supplier. Since 2015 all of its 200+ slots have been available in HTML5, in both portrait and landscape. Further awards for game supplier of the year and innovation in mobile followed every year from 2015 to 2021.
Promotions and free spins
NetEnt is often credited with one of the broadest bonus offers in the industry. It makes no-deposit and deposit free spins on top titles such as Starburst available to its casino partners, alongside loyalty programmes and other recurring promotions.
The studio encourages partners to reward new and returning players, and its team checks that bonus terms are fair and transparent.
Testing, responsible gaming and licences
Independent labs test and certify NetEnt’s software for security, platform and game performance, and reliable remote gambling:
- eCOGRA
- Gaming Laboratories International
- iTech Labs
- Technical Services Bureau
- Global Gambling Guidance Group
Responsible gambling is a priority. Player protection tools are built into NetEnt CasinoModule™, and casinos running NetEnt games must provide self-exclusion, play limits, reality checks, game speed controls and a visible clock. NetEnt also supports problem-gambling charities such as GambleAware in the UK and Gambling Therapy.
NetEnt holds licences in the UK, Malta, Gibraltar, Italy, Denmark, Spain, Portugal, New Jersey, Romania and the Czech Republic, and it continues to enter new markets.
