A gaming technology giant from Austria
Prof. Johann F. Graf founded Novomatic in Austria in 1980. More than four decades later the group employs around 24,500 people around the world, sells its gaming solutions in over 100 countries and has a strong footprint in 50 of them. Revenue in 2022 came close to 2.9 billion euros, placing Novomatic among Austria’s largest companies.
Much of its reputation comes from land-based operations. The group runs about 2,100 gaming venues with more than 214,000 gaming terminals, many of them under the Admiral brand, ranging from electronic casinos to sports betting shops. Running venues and building machines side by side has given it a leading position in Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Austria and across Central and Eastern Europe.
Research and development takes place in 15 countries and manufacturing in 11, with a focus on fields such as server-based gaming and video lottery terminals. Those R&D centres have produced roughly 5,000 registered IP trademarks, which supports Novomatic’s standing as a market leader in European electronic casino gaming.
Online, the decisive step came in 2010, when Novomatic acquired London-based Greentube. Greentube is now the brand responsible for the whole interactive portfolio.

The Novomatic and Greentube slot catalogue
Between them, Novomatic and Greentube offer close to 500 slots. The classic Book of Ra series and Candelas de los Muertos are typical of the range: strong stories, bonus rounds that keep players engaged, and polished graphics and audio. Games are adapted to what players in different regions prefer, a sign of how well the group tailors content to local markets.
Two mechanics stand out. Win Ways™ clears winning symbols after a payout so new ones can drop into place and extend the winning streak. The Diamond Mystery™ Jackpot series, one of the first standalone progressive jackpots in the interactive portfolio, lets players win up to 5,000 times their stake.

Novomatic classics worth a spot in your lobby
Novomatic and its subsidiaries offer around 500 games, and many have been player favourites for years. These three have been among the strongest performers recently:
Book of Ra
An adventure in ancient Egypt in which the player takes on the part of an explorer hunting legendary treasure. It is one of the best-performing games in the whole catalogue. The slot has five reels and nine paylines, and three or more Book symbols start 10 Free Games with a randomly chosen Expanding Symbol that spreads across the reels to multiply wins along the paylines.
Lucky Lady’s Charm™ deluxe 6
A long-running hit both on gaming machines and online. The Lucky Lady acts as a Wild, standing in for every symbol except the Hands Scatter, and doubles any line win she is part of. Three or more Scatters, which pay in any position, award 15 Free Games in which wins are tripled. Players who switch on the sixth reel with the Extra-Bet feature pay double the stake but can win up to six times the standard amount.
Sizzling Hot™ deluxe!
A nod to early slot machines with fruits, stars and lucky sevens, and no elaborate bonus games. It runs on five reels and five fixed paylines that pay same-symbol combinations from left to right. The Star Scatter is the exception: it pays in any position, and its wins are added to line wins to boost the total payout.
Technology Novomatic pioneered
Many technologies now standard in cabinets and online slots were developed by Novomatic, from the multiplayer machine and ASIC (Applied Specific Integrated Circuit) hardware to Greentube Plurius™, a server-based gaming system for casino and VLT markets that releases a game on desktop, smartphone, tablet and iTV at the same time. The novoSDK toolkit gives developers software support for building online casino games.
Mobile and app support
The interactive division builds every game in HTML5, so titles run on any device whatever its operating system. Proprietary casino apps for Android and iOS are supported too.
Jackpots and player rewards
Progressive jackpots are a Novomatic speciality. Novoline machines such as Golden Link and Cash Connection all run linked jackpots, and Multi-Level Mystery Progressives come with games such as the Book of Ra™ theme, the Four Seasons Jackpot™ and the Tales of Darkness™ Jackpot.
On top of these jackpots and the in-game bonuses, operators who connect Novomatic through our API can add our standalone bonus system, with loyalty programmes, deposit bonuses and other campaign tools.
Security technology
Up-to-date security features and firewalls protect both Novomatic’s cabinets and its online products. One example is Novovision, a cashless system built on patented biometric technology that identifies registered users through fingerprint and face recognition.
Licences and certification
Novomatic and Greentube hold gambling licences from the UK Gambling Commission, Italy’s Agenzia delle dogane e dei monopoli, the Malta Gaming Authority and regulators in Latvia, Gibraltar, Spain and Alderney, among others. Their software is also certified by Asensi Technologies and Gaming Laboratories International LLC, confirming that it is fair and safe.
