An inside bet is any roulette wager placed on the numbered grid of the table layout, on a single number or a small group of neighbouring numbers, rather than on the broad outside sections. The betting area is split into these two zones. The inside zone covers the numbers 0 to 36, plus 00 on an American wheel.
Inside bets include the straight-up, split, street, corner and six-line bets. Double-zero tables also offer the five-number bet on 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3. Whichever you choose, if your chips are on specific numbers, it is an inside bet. Because each one covers few numbers, it wins less often but pays more than an outside bet: 35 to 1 for a single number against 1 to 1 for red or black. Operators often set separate minimum and maximum stakes for inside and outside bets.
