To deal is to hand out cards to the players and, where the rules call for it, to the dealer’s own hand or the board. In a land-based casino, only the dealer or croupier deals at blackjack, baccarat, poker and other card games; players never handle the deck. “A deal” can also mean a single round, as in “wait for the next deal”.
Every game has its own dealing procedure: the order in which cards go out, which are face up or face down, and when a card is burned. Casinos want players to see that nothing has been arranged in advance, so dealers follow strict house rules for shuffling, card washing, cutting and dealing from a shoe, and each game adds rules of its own.
Dealing in digital games
RNG card games simulate the deal with a random number generator, while live tables show the real deal on camera. Either way, the dealing rules should appear in the game’s help screen so players know exactly how a round works.
