A natural is the best possible hand dealt from the start, with no extra cards needed. In blackjack, it is an ace plus a ten-value card (10, J, Q or K) as your first two cards: 21 in two cards, also simply called a blackjack. It wins on the spot, unless the dealer has a natural too, in which case the hand is a tie.
Baccarat has its own natural: a two-card total of 8 or 9. If either the player or banker hand has one, no more cards are drawn and the higher natural wins, so a 9 beats an 8. Equal naturals tie. In blackjack, the payout on a natural is a key rule to check. Tables paying 6 to 5 instead of the traditional 3 to 2 noticeably raise the house edge.
