A dime bet is a wager of $1,000. Outside gambling a dime is a ten-cent coin, but at the poker table, in the blackjack pit and at the sportsbook counter, “a dime” means a thousand dollars. A player who says they will put a dime on a hand or a team is staking $1,000, not ten cents.
The phrase is part of a wider shorthand among bettors: in sports betting circles a “nickel” is $500 and a “buck” is $100. Such shorthand keeps conversation quick, but it can confuse newcomers, so the context — a high-limit table, a big game — is usually what tells you that real money is meant. When in doubt, ask for the figure before the bet is accepted.

Stakes of this size usually belong to the VIP segment, where individual limits, fast withdrawals and a personal account manager matter more than standard promotions.
